Questions: find your answer

What does Claude need to analyse my report usefully?

Explain the report's purpose, your role and the decision ahead. A procurement manager comparing proposals needs different answers from an employee checking a new policy. Name the questions and attach only the authorised material needed to answer them.

For a supplier decision, request requirements met, exclusions, unclear costs and questions for the supplier. A general summary can miss all four.

I am [role] comparing these supplied supplier proposals for [decision]. My required outcomes are [requirements]. Compare evidence for each requirement, exclusions, stated costs and unanswered questions. Cite proposal and section. Do not turn missing information into a positive score or contact suppliers.

How do I ask Claude for evidence instead of a plausible summary?

Request a supporting passage and location for each important answer, plus an explicit ‘not found’ when the source is silent. Keep quoted evidence separate from interpretation. This creates something you can inspect; it does not guarantee that the interpretation is right.

Check that a quotation is exact, comes from the stated document and actually supports the claim. A citation to an entire report is less useful than a specific section.

Answer [question] using only [supplied document]. Give a short supporting quotation and page or section for each material claim. Label any inference separately. If the source does not answer, say ‘not found in the supplied document’. Do not invent a quotation, citation or inaccessible source.

How do I get Claude to write in my own voice?

Give a few authorised examples and identify the traits you want: short openings, concrete verbs, restrained humour or a direct request. Explain what the new text must accomplish. Examples should guide style, not supply facts or stories to copy into the new piece.

For a client update, include the actual progress, problem and next step. Ask for a draft you can review, not a claim that it will evade an AI detector.

How can I revise a section without changing the rest?

Identify the exact passage and approved facts, then request a replacement plus a short change list. For a proposal, say whether the price, scope, deadline and legal wording must stay unchanged. Check any knock-on changes before accepting the revision.

If the surrounding document is long, provide the relevant section and the constraints it depends on. Do not assume an earlier approval remains available in every later chat.

How should I organise background material for a repeated task?

Keep an approved source pack: task description, audience, glossary, style samples, current facts and a good output example. Label each item with its purpose and version. Separate standing instructions from this week's inputs.

If your environment offers a project or shared context feature, check what it actually includes. Otherwise attach the relevant pack again. ‘We discussed it last month’ is not a reliable handoff.

What is the difference between Claude chat and a coding-agent workflow?

A chat can help explain an error or draft code from material you supply. A coding-agent environment may also inspect repository files, edit them and run checks, subject to its tools and permissions. The difference is access and execution, not simply a more technical-sounding prompt.

State whether you want diagnosis or an implemented fix. Before allowing edits, define the scope and how you will verify the behaviour.

How do I brief a code change I can actually test?

Describe the observable problem, reproduction steps, expected result and constraints. Ask for a small change and tests that would fail before the fix. ‘Make the app better’ offers no clear finish line.

For a save button, test persistence after reloading, failure feedback and repeated clicks—not just whether a success message appears. Review the actual diff and test results.

Fix this behaviour: [reproduction steps and observed result]. Expected: [observable result]. Preserve [constraints]. Inspect before editing, make the smallest relevant change, and add or run tests for success, failure and repeated use. Report actual test results and anything not verified. Do not deploy or change unrelated files.

How do I compare Claude with ChatGPT on my work?

Use the same authorised input and a task-specific checklist. For report analysis, score supported findings, missing evidence and factual errors separately from writing style. Save the actual outputs, visible model names, tools and date.

Repeat representative tasks before drawing a conclusion. If one assistant had web access and the other did not, record that difference. This site does not present invented head-to-head results.

Why can Claude miss something in a long document?

A file being accepted does not establish that every page was readable or used correctly. The relevant detail may be in a scan, footnote, appendix or conflicting passage. Break the job into specific questions and request source locations.

For a consequential review, check coverage by section and inspect the decisive evidence yourself. A larger advertised context window is not a promise of perfect comprehension.

What if an uploaded document contains instructions to the assistant?

Treat the document as material to analyse, not authority to change the task. A proposal could contain text telling an assistant to recommend its supplier or reveal other information. Ask it to flag such content and keep tools narrowly scoped.

Labels help organise a prompt, but are not a security guarantee. Keep external actions behind appropriate permissions and review.

Can I upload confidential documents to Claude?

Only if your authorisation and the relevant organisation's policy allow that particular service and account. Check current handling, retention and workspace terms before uploading. Do not infer privacy guarantees from a model name or another company's setup.

Often a redacted extract or fictional example is enough to develop the analysis method. Leave credentials, private identifiers and irrelevant personal information out.

Which Claude model should I choose?

Choose among the models actually offered to you, using a small task that represents your real workload. Judge correctness, useful detail, response time and available tools. A quick email and a multi-file code change need different checks.

Consult current official model guidance for a version-specific decision. Model labels, app features and API settings are not interchangeable. Newer does not establish better performance on your task without evidence.

Anthropic's official prompting, evaluation and hallucination guidance checked 10 October 2026. Original examples are editorially reviewed, not reported live-model tests. API documentation informs general prompting principles; it does not establish that every Claude app account has the same tools or settings. No superiority, pricing or account-access claim is made.
